Lisa Chicoyne is a New York City based artist who’s focus is the expressive nature of materials. With a strong regard for visual structure she imbues direct intuitive response with an understanding of materials and process.

Experiencing the world and the complexities of human experience drive her imagery and practice. Ideas and sensations are evoked by ambiguous objects. Process aids in the forming of layers revealing and obscuring the objects’ meaning. There is a gut response, perhaps a glimpse into something just beyond clear comprehension.

Lisa’s work is in numerous private collections throughout the United States. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions at Edge Gallery (Denver), The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, The Sangre de Cristo Art Center (Pueblo, CO), Salina Art Center (Salina, KS), The Downtown Studio Gallery at Pikes Peak Community College (Colorado Springs, CO), Greenwich House Pottery, Sculpture Space NYC, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition and others. She earned her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has taught at The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Community College (Colorado Springs, CO), Sugar Maples (Hunter, NY), The YMCA of Greater New York and Greenwich House Pottery (NYC) where she currently teaches paperclay. She maintains a private studio in New Jersey and is a member of Sculpture Space NYC.

Complementing a devoted studio practice Lisa is a committed and engaged teacher. In addition to ongoing classes at the Westside Y and Greenwich House Pottery in New York City, Lisa offers workshops in paperclay. Please email if you would like to discuss hosting a workshop at your organization.
